This tutorial covers how to use the "Refine" tool in Photoshop to achieve smooth lines from an imperfect scan of inked line art.

I found the Photoshop Help file rather confusing. It took me forever to learn how to use this tool, so I hope this can help a few people.

I may not of chosen the best example of line art to use for the tutorial, this technique works best with line art such as this
[link] The cleaner, and simpler the line art the better.


I use CS3, I'm not sure if other versions of Photoshop have this tool.

Great tutorial. Unfortunately, I am not able to do this. For some reason I do not have the refine edges option. I was wondering what version of photoshop you had.

GGRRRRRR!!! Do you know if CS2 has it? I thinking it be hidden somewhere in the tool bar or something.

I googled "refine edges+CS2" and I do not think CS2 has that function. Perhaps you could find a plug-in for it though, or if you have Illustrator I think you could use the "live trace" button for a similar if not better result. Good luck!
